Sewverton Sparkle ✨

A Jersey Top Collaboration by me and my beautiful friend Katherine of @sewvertonmakery

When we found out that we had both been selected as Sew Inspired Ambassadors for Beyond the Pink Door, we instantly knew we wanted to collaborate on a project together.

It didn’t take long before we were both scrolling the website, and almost at the same moment, we were drawn to the same fabric – this absolutely stunning Meadow Coneflower cotton jersey. With its vibrant blue background, striking pink coneflowers, and glowing golden centres, it was love at first sight.

This fabric, made by Stof of Denmark, is pure luxury to sew with. Soft and smooth against the skin, with a 40% four-way stretch, it’s ideal for comfortable everyday wear. At 95% cotton / 5% elastane, a medium weight 205gsm, and a generous 160cm width, it ticks every box for a versatile jersey. Needless to say, we both ordered 1.5 metres straight away!

A Little About Beyond the Pink Door 🌸

Our fabric for this project came from the wonderful Beyond the Pink Door, run by Andrea – a true fabric enthusiast with a lifelong love of sewing.

Andrea grew up in Co. Galway, Ireland, where sewing was passed down through her mom and grandmother. By her teens and twenties she was happily making most of her own clothes, always preferring a trip to the fabric shop over the high street. After a short break, her passion reignited in 2018, and there’s been no looking back.

What started as a hobby and a YouTube channel soon blossomed into a full online fabric store. When the pandemic put her Irish dance costume business on pause, Andrea took the leap and built Beyond the Pink Door into the much-loved shop it is today.

The motto is simple: no fabric is sold that Andrea and her team wouldn’t happily use themselves. That means a carefully curated selection of fabrics in gorgeous colours, prints, and top-quality bases – all with the personal touch.

Community is a huge part of Beyond the Pink Door too. Since October 2020, Andrea has been hosting Sunday Night YouTube Lives – part fabric showcase, part sewing chat, and often described as the closest thing to a virtual shopping trip. It’s become a highlight for fabric lovers around the world.

Now based in Poundbury in the south of England, Andrea and her team ship worldwide and continue to connect with makers through their shop, YouTube, Instagram, and the Pink Door Makers Facebook group.

Sam’s Make ✂️

For my project, I chose the Vera Top by Forget-Me-Not Patterns – a knit top pattern known for its fun, full bishop-style sleeves and flattering V-neck. Vera is designed for knit fabrics and offers plenty of versatility: you can choose between two cuff options, or even leave the cuff off for a soft flared sleeve. The shaping makes it fitted at the bust with a relaxed fit through the waist, and it’s rated an intermediate skill level for sewists.

I decided to make the bishop sleeve version with the large cuff option, but with a twist – I hacked the neckline to feature a mock turtleneck, borrowing the style from the Tilly and the Buttons Freya Top. It’s a little different from the intended design, but I love how the higher neckline pairs with the bold print.

I sewed my Vera mostly on the overlocker for neat, stretchy seams, and cut a European size 40. To finish, I used a twin needle on the hem for that professional-looking stretch stitch.

The finished top feels modern, comfortable, and really lets the Meadow Coneflower fabric shine.

Katherine’s Make ✂️ - Written by Katherine

For my project I decided to make the Molly Top by Sew Over It. The Molly top is a relaxed fit jersey top with a grown on sleeve. Perfect made in a cotton jersey. It can be worn untucked with its scooped hem or tucked into tops for a dressier look. It can also be made into a dress version by extending the front and back pieces.

I decided to make the top version in the stunning Meadow Coneflower jersey from Beyond the Pink Door.

I made up a size 10 at the bust and graded to a 12 at the waist and hips. I took 2 inches out of the length of the top and feel this length is just right. I also shortened the neckband from the pattern. I measure the neckline and made the neckband 80% of this measurement.

It is such a wonderful top to wear and made even more fabulous due to the gorgeous fabric. It’s amazing how a beautiful fabric can elevate a super simple jersey top.

Thank you for this wonderful collaboration Sam, and a massive thank you to Andrea at Beyond the Pink Door for asking me to be a Sew Inspired Ambassador 💕

We’ve absolutely loved working on this project together – it’s been so fun to see how two different patterns can highlight the same fabric in unique ways. The Meadow Coneflower cotton jersey really is the star of the show, and we couldn’t recommend it more if you’re looking for something joyful, comfortable, and versatile for your next make.
