A Month of Little Sparkles – Sewing, Surprises & Saying Yes to Creativity

JUNE 2026

Sometimes, when I look back over a month, I realise the things that brought me the most joy weren’t always the things I planned.

This month has been full of those little unexpected moments — the ones that make me stop, smile and think, “Yes… this is exactly why I love sewing.”

One of the biggest moments has been the launch of the Star Dock. It started as a simple idea to solve a sewing problem and I genuinely didn’t know how it would be received. To say I have been overwhelmed by the support would be an understatement. The first batch has sold out, and I’m so grateful to every single person who ordered one and supported this little idea of mine.

I’ve also settled into a new rhythm after the whirlwind of Everyday in May. My Sunday A Little Bit of Sparkle videos have become a place for a proper catch-up — a cup of tea, a chat about sewing, life, projects, fabrics and all the little moments in between.

And those little moments really do matter.

A beautiful piece of happy mail from a sewing friend, complete with fabric, labels, washi tape and (because she knows me so well) my favourite chocolate bar.

A last-minute engagement party outfit that reminded me of the value of trusted patterns and not forcing a project that doesn’t feel right.

Working on a new jumpsuit and being reminded once again that our bodies are wonderfully individual and that fitting is never as simple as the measurements on an envelope.

And, of course, my June Feeling Fruity adventures have already proved that sewing plans have a sense of humour. I started the month imagining a wardrobe full of fruity garments and my very first finished project was… a lemon loo roll holder! 🍋

But perhaps that is the beauty of creativity. It doesn’t always follow the route we planned. Sometimes the little detours are the most enjoyable part of the journey.

June is rapidly becoming my month of fruit-themed sewing! 🍐🍓🍉

This week I finished my Ashton Top in the happiest fruit print imaginable and paired it with my new pear-green Falconer Pants. Both patterns are by Helen’s Closet and together they have transformed me into what can only be described as a walking fruit salad! I even added one of my “Made to Sparkle” labels for the perfect finishing touch.

The weekend was extra special as I headed to the Beyond The Pink Door Summer Party. It was a wonderful opportunity to catch up with sewing friends, admire beautiful fabrics and spend time with people who understand exactly why fabric shopping counts as a legitimate hobby.

One of the highlights was finally wearing my Hali Jumpsuit alongside my friend Tamlyn’s version. We had planned our makes together, choosing the same pattern but completely different fabrics. Seeing the two jumpsuits side by side perfectly demonstrated how versatile the pattern can be.

Tamlyn holds a special place in my sewing journey. She was responsible for giving my little YouTube channel one of its first big boosts with a generous shout-out to her audience. These days I’m lucky enough to call her a friend, and weekends like this remind me just how much the sewing community is built on kindness, encouragement and genuine friendship.

The party itself was full of laughter, inspiration and plenty of fabric-enabled excitement. We worked hard helping Andrea over the weekend, but we also made time for fun. There was wine, lots of chatting and even a surprise Ska band playing in the pub where we were staying. It felt like one of those magical weekends you’ll remember long after the fabric purchases have been washed and sewn.

And because every sewing sleepover deserves proper attire, I also made a pair of Fran pyjama bottoms with a coordinating Blomma tank top. Surely handmade pyjamas are obligatory when you’re spending the weekend with sewing friends!

As I look back on the photos, from June.

I’m reminded that sewing isn’t just about the garments we make. It’s about the people we meet, the confidence we gain, and the little moments of sparkle we collect along the way. ✨

If there is one thing I’m taking from this month, it is this:

You don’t have to do extraordinary things to create a little sparkle.

Sometimes it’s a finished garment. Sometimes it’s a solved sewing problem. Sometimes it’s a kind gift from a friend and sometimes… it’s a lemon loo roll holder hanging proudly in the studio toilet.
