How to Make a 2 Seam Pouch (Beginner-Friendly + Quick!)

If you love quick sewing projects that look impressive but are secretly simple… this 2 seam pouch is for you.

It’s perfect for:

  • Little gifts

  • Organizing your handbag

  • Storing sewing notions

  • Scrap-busting your favourite fabrics

  • Gifting gift cards or cash

And the best part? It only requires two seams to complete.

I also have a full step-by-step video tutorial on my YouTube channel where you can follow along in real time (link below!).

✂️ Materials & Cutting

You’ll need:

  • 1 main fabric piece: 20.5” x 5.5”

  • 1 interfacing piece: 20” x 5”

  • Snaps (1 pair)

  • Coordinating thread

  • Basic sewing tools

Step 1: Cut & Mark Fold Lines

With your long fabric strip wrong side facing up:

  1. Mark a line 2.5” from the short edge

  2. Mark another line 2.5” from that first line

  3. Mark a third line 2.25” from the second

  4. Mark another 2.25” from the third

These fold lines create the pocket structure inside the pouch.

Step 2: Fold

Starting at the left short side:

  • Fold fabric to the first mark (wrong sides together).

  • Flip the piece over and fold along the second marked line.

  • Continue turning and folding at each marked line.

  • Finally, fold the remaining short side over to meet the left edge, sandwiching the pockets inside.

Press well and clip in place.

This is where the magic happens — it starts looking complicated, but it’s really just clever folding.

Step 3: Sew

Now for the easy part:

  • Sew along the two outer sides only.

  • Do not sew across the folded pocket edge.

  • Use a 1/4” seam allowance.

  • Backstitch at the beginning and end.

  • Clip seam allowances slightly to reduce bulk.

Tuck the open seam neatly inside (you can glue it closed if you prefer).

Step 4: Turn & Add Snaps

  • Turn the pouch right side out through the pocket opening.

  • Push out the corners.

  • Press everything into place.

  • Fold the pouch in half to find your snap placement.

  • Install the first snap about 1” down from the flap edge.

  • Use that snap to mark the placement for the second half (make sure they align!).

And you’re done 🎉
